The Lookout Bequia

Bequia beaches

Nine Bequia beaches, from the bays below The Lookout to quieter island corners.

Bequia rewards anyone who enjoys choosing a beach to suit the day. Princess Margaret and Lower Bay are close to The Lookout. They are arguably the two finest stretches of sand on island with clear, warm water, great swimming & snorkelling, and plenty of places to stop off for refreshments. Other beaches that are very walkable from our apartments include Friendship Bay and Belmont Beach. Some island bays demand a longer hike, or a short taxi ride. Sea conditions vary, especially on the windward side, so ask before swimming somewhere unfamiliar

Princess Margaret Beach

This sheltered sweep of sand looks into Admiralty Bay. It is one of the two beaches very close to The Lookout, reached by a short walk downhill. Its gentle approach and clear water make it a favourite for swimming and a long beach afternoon. Jack’s Bar is located at the northern end of the beach and is surely one of the world’s best beach bars & a sublime venue for drinks and food at any time of day

Lower Bay

Just across the headland from Princess Margaret, Lower Bay is another favourite near The Lookout. Relax under the trees, swim in the bay, and choose from informal places to eat and drink along the shore. De Reef is a popular spot, with a daily, 3 hour “happy hour” and a live music jam towards sunset on Sunday afternoons

Friendship Bay

On Bequia’s Atlantic side, but still only a 15-minute walk from The Lookout, lies Friendship Bay. This has a welcoming, fresh breeze and a wide outlook. It is a lovely morning outing, though the water can sometimes be rougher than the sheltered beaches of Admiralty Bay. The Sand Bar provides an idyllic spot for beach snacks, washed down with a Coconut Colada, or two

Belmont Beach

This narrow waterfront stretch joins the walkway towards Port Elizabeth. It is a pleasant place for a harbour stroll and a sundowner, with cafés, galleries and water activity nearby.

Crescent Beach

A quieter palm-fringed bay on the other side of the island. The walk and setting reward those who enjoy finding a less busy beach; ask your hosts about the route and current conditions.

Palm-lined Crescent Beach

Park Bay

A secluded windward beach near the vast uninhabited area known as Bequia Head – a perfect spot for hiking, off the beaten path. Sea conditions here deserve care and local advice

Hope Beach

The walk to Hope Beach is part of the adventure. It is often quiet and beautifully wild; wind and surf can be strong, so treat it as a place to explore rather than assuming it is safe for swimming.

Hope Beach

Ravine Bay

Rugged, seldom visited and dramatic, with a blowhole and steep terrain nearby. Go with appropriate footwear, company and up-to-date local guidance.

Ravine Bay

Adams Bay

A sandy bay towards the southern end of Bequia, beyond the airport. It makes a change of scene on an island drive, and is close to the Moonhole area. Why not take a day pass at The Liming hotel which includes food, cocktails, use of the beach & infinity pool, plus there’s a tennis court and non-motorised water sports on offer
